I’m a bit of a foodie…ok maybe that’s an understatement. I’m a pretty big foodie and I think that’s evidenced by the fact that my best friend and I used to try as many restaurants and hidden food joints as we could find back home. We practically know all the food that’s worthy of being eaten (and those that are not) back in our hometown. So in that sense when I heard about a hidden taco place in Orlando that supposedly has some of the best tacos in the area, I had to see for myself. The name of the joint was “Tako Cheena”, a bit of a hidden gem in Orlando if you ask me. The place is small and is an Asian-Latin fusion restaurant. It’s nestled in a pretty prime spot of Orlando too, right outside of the University of Central Florida campus, and it’s open till 4 am so you can see the potential for hungry college students being their biggest fan-base.
Only problem is it is about an hour and a half from where I am in Florida, but luckily for me I have a friend who has a car and is admirably spontaneous. After an hour and thirty minutes of driving we finally get to the place and I gotta say I do not know what I was expecting going in. As soon as I stepped in I saw it was packed with people…at 2 am! I walked in with my friends, Adam and Martin, and were immediately greeted with an over- enthusiastic server, actually all the servers had their own nuances.
One of them was over-enthusiastic, one was very flirty, and the other one was sarcastic. One thing they all had in common was that they were all sassy to the point where we couldn’t determine if they were being serious or not. Anyway, us being a bunch of freshman engineers we couldn’t decide on what to get from the menu, so the server recommends that we get the “Korean Beef Burrito.” So all three of us end up getting that and boy let me tell you IT WAS FLIPPING SO GOOD IT KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF. That burrito was by far one of the best burritos I have had, the Korean beef was sweet yet savory and everything just worked so well together.
I think my friends and I literally sat there and ate in amazement not talking at all until it was done. Just looking at the picture of the burrito makes my mouth water. Another very notable thing was that we had a side of kimchi fried after which are basically just spicy cheese fries BUT almost all the fries had a very even layer of cheese on them! IT WAS AMAZING. Hundreds of years of technological development and we have only found one place that has almost perfect cheese coverage. Overall…10/10 GO TO THIS PLACE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.
